As corporate members of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), we work together to develop our workforce against a backdrop of numerous sustainability and climate threats. In 2021 we began discussions with IEMA to create IEMA approved training that was bespoke for our business that could be delivered by our teams.
In early 2022 we began our application process to become an approved IEMA Training Centre with the help of training consultant Dipvandana Mehta. By May 2022 we received our certification from IEMA to confirm that our Breedon Sustainability Centre was able to deliver IEMA approved courses. The first course developed and rolled out was based on IEMA's Sustainability Skills for Managers, a two-day course intended to support managers and supervisors from any industry in understanding the strategic and operational implications of environmental sustainability. This was made bespoke to Breedon's sustainability strategy, operations and management systems. Over 40 managers have been through the training to date with the rollout continuing to the rest of the business.
Colleague feedback has been very positive, including the below from Nick Bateman (Concrete Production Manager) who attended a course at our head office in Breedon in September
"Just though I’d let you know how useful and enjoyable the course was this week. It’s given me a lot to think about in terms of my sites and how I can make them more efficient. I struggle a bit with the environmental impact of our industry and was very pleased to see that Breedon are taking steps to mitigate the impact with the Sustainability planning."
